How to Measure

Getting accurate measurements is the most important step before ordering custom window treatments. You have two options: hire someone to measure for you, or measure the windows yourself.

Option 1: Hire a Handyman to Measure

Option 2: Measure It Yourself

If you are not comfortable measuring on your own, we recommend hiring a local handyman to help.

A handyman can measure every window in your home, check for uneven walls or trim, and note any obstacles that may affect installation or curtain movement.

You can find local handymen on platforms such as Thumbtack. For a whole-home measurement visit, the total cost is usually under $100, depending on your location and the number of windows.

Before booking, ask the handyman to:

Measure each window width and height in multiple places
Check whether the window opening is level and square
Note any handles, locks, cranks, vents, baseboards, furniture, or other obstacles
Confirm whether each product will be installed inside mount, outside mount, side mount, or ceiling mount
For side-mounted products or ceiling-mounted tracks, locate studs or solid backing to make sure the hardware can be installed securely
Take clear photos of each window area and recommended mounting points

If you prefer to measure yourself, please use a soft measuring tape or a laser distance measurer. A rigid ruler is not recommended for large windows.

Homes are rarely perfectly straight. Window frames, walls, ceilings, and floors may not be completely level or vertical, so one measurement is not enough.

For best results:

Measure width at the top, middle, and bottom
Measure height on the left, center, and right
Record the smallest width when ordering products that must fit inside the window opening
Double-check every number before submitting your order
Measure each window individually, even if they look the same
